ICYMI: E3 2021 Day 1 Ubisoft announcements

E3 started with a bang this year. As the 2nd annual online event it has to be bigger than last year. Does it live up to your expectations? Let’s find out!

The announcement of Rainbow Six Extraction leads off the weekend with much fanfare. It was originally announced in 2019 as a spin-off for Rainbow Six Siege’s Outbreak mode. When it was planned for it to be a stand-alone title it was called Rainbow Six Quarantine. However, due to the 2020 Global Pandemic, it was renamed Extraction. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal.

Rocksmith+ Logo

Rocksmith Plus was next with a completely new model never seen in the other Rocksmith titles. The guitar trainer will now become a subscription-based service. It will give you access to an ever-changing catalog of songs to learn and play along with. Ubisoft will be releasing a companion phone app that removes the need for extra gear. The USB dongle from other versions of Rocksmith will no longer be needed. The closed beta will be live now until July 22nd.

Riders Republic was shown off and it’s basically X-Games for a new generation. This open-world extreme sports title is described as a “Massively Multiplayer Sports Game” as more than fifty players can participate in a race at a given time. It also melds seven national parks into one single map. It also features a career mode where players can participate in biking, skiing, wingsuit (and rocket wingsuit), and freestyle varieties. Riders Republic is to be released on September 2nd, 2021.

The newest DLC for Rainbow Six Seige was announced as “North Star.” It will bring in a new character, Thunderbird. They are the defending operative of the Nakoda Territories of the United States and Canada. The DLC will also bring in a rework of the Favela map, as well as buffs and nerfs to weapons and operatives. The second season of Year 6 will be released on June 14th, 2021.

Werewolves Within Movie Poster

Regarding the hit video game Werewolves Within, it was announced that there is a film of the same name to be released June 25th. Produced by Ubisoft Film & Television and directed by Josh Ruben making his directorial debut. The movie is described by IFCFilms, the distributor as “A proposed gas pipeline has created divisions within the small town of Beaverfield. When a snowstorm traps its residents together inside the local inn, newly arrived forest ranger Finn and postal worker Cecily must try to keep the peace and uncover the truth behind a mysterious creature that has begun terrorizing the community.”

Far Cry 6 has a release date of October 7th 2021 for all major platforms, including Google Stadia and Amazon Luna. It takes place on a fictional Caribbean island as a “Tropical paradise frozen in time” being run by an evil dictator. You take the role of Dani Rojas, a guerrilla soldier fighting to restore glory to the island. The gender of Dani will be selectable at the start of the game.

Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Logo

The epic cross-over no one expected returns as Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope was announced. The name reveal was also hinting at a new type of weapon in the game, the Sparks. Think of them as Luma’s from Mario Galaxy with the face of a Rabbid. They didn’t mention much about the game itself beyond the announcement but they did mention “There are galaxies to save.” There is currently no release date but it will be a Nintendo Switch exclusive!
