Imagine building classic SEGA arcades out of LEGOs

Yes, yes, that is the legendary Yu Suzuki in LEGO form.
Yes, yes, that is the legendary Yu Suzuki in LEGO form.

We have to admit that we were pretty jealous of those mini deluxe SEGA arcade machines floating around Japan awhile back. The problem was they were pretty damn expensive, but what if we told you there’s a possibility to get those same machines in miniature form that wouldn’t require you to take out a personal loan to obtain?

LEGO Ideas user SpacySmoke has launched a proposal to release LEGO versions of Space Harrier, Out Run and Thunder Blade. Along with the machines, there would be minifigures of the game’s creator Yu Suzuki, along with a male and female “SEGA fan.”

“These minifigure-scaled replicas will look good displayed on your desk at work or home and are perfect for use in your Lego City,” SpaceSmoke wrote in the proposal’s description. “The three included minifigures look great at the controls of these detailed builds.”

For this proposal to become close to reality, it needs 10,000 supporters before LEGO will even consider making them. As of this writing, the campaign has 470 supporters but has 280 days left before its deadline.

SpacySmoke also wrote that he originally intended on making Hang-On and After Burner versions, “but they were proving difficult. I would like to see the LEGO designers take a stab at including those as well if this projects reaches full support.”

You can check out the campaign here and view a Flickr gallery of the set here.
