‘It Came From the Desert’ finally coming to the Genesis after 24 years

Cinemaware released It Came From the Desert in 1989 for the Amiga. They had planned to also create unique ports of the game for the SEGA Genesis and Turbo Grafx 16, but they never saw the light of day. About 10 years ago, Cinemaware released the game’s ROM for people to finally experience the game, but now, they plan to do something much more awesome.

Cinemaware is now teaming up with our friends at Watermelon Games to finally release a physical edition of the game, now titled It Came From the Desert: The Action Game – Extended Cut for the Genesis in summer 2015, complete with a Genesis-style hardshell case (not those shitty cardboard ones), a copy of the game, instruction manual and a mini-poster.

If you were among those who played the ROM when Cinemaware originally released it, there’s reason to give this version a go because it will feature a new introduction sequence, new cutscenes, a new ending sequence and additional gameplay elements, according to the game’s web page.

The company isn’t yet accepting pre-orders for the game but promises to do so soon. In the meantime, you can register for their newsletter, which will give you first dibs at pre-orders.

What’s more, Cinemaware currently has a Kickstarter project to fund Rocket Ranger Returns, a follow-up to Rocket Ranger for the Amiga.
