Marathon Hype: Where Were You on 9/9/99?

The Dreamless Dreamcast 24-Hour Marathon kicks off at 7AM EST on 09/07/19 on our Twitch channel and you can donate to our Extra Life page right now!

To continue the countdown to the marathon on 09/07/19, I thought I would pose a question to everyone: Where were you on 9/9/99? Or if you were not picking up a Dreamcast quite yet, what was your first experience/memory with the Dreamcast?

I’ll kick things off with my own story:

I was saving up money from mowing lawns. Being a freshman in high school, I begged and begged my parents to let me skip school and give me a ride to Best Buy. Having never skipped school in my life, there was no way my parents would allow me to do that for a video game. Instead, my dad picked me up from school and drove me to Best Buy. I picked up the console, a VMU and Sonic Adventure. There were so many other games to choose from, but I knew from reading the Official Dreamcast Magazine that Sonic Adventure was my clear choice.

I set everything up, and my dad even sat down and watched me play a few minutes to see why I was so anxious to skip school. I turned on the console, heard that weirdly loud *beeeeeep* from my VMU, and watched as the Sonic Adventure intro video blew my mind with blaring rock guitars and beautiful graphics. If memory serves, following that final guitar blare in the intro I am pretty confident I yelled, “YEAH!”

I played until dinner and wondered how I could convince my parents to let me use the phone line for my Dreamcast to check out the Sonic Adventure website.

What about you?
