PSA: SEGA, Capcom crossover event Worlds Unite begins today

Archie Comics’ super, mega, awesome SEGA and Capcom crossover event, Worlds Unite, begins today with Sonic Universe #76.

The 12-part Worlds Unite series will take place in Sonic Universe, Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic Boom and Mega Man comics that will include such characters like Alex Kidd, Billy Hatcher, Viewtiful Joe, Vyse (Skies of Arcadia), Ryu and more.

Destructoid recently talked to writer Ian Flynn about the series and also the controversial Sonic Boom franchise and how it’ll fit into Worlds Unite.

“The [Sonic Boom] games established the characters and world in that media, the comics and cartoons expanded upon that and have been very well received,” Flynn said. “The Boom characters help balance the franchise representation — two types of Mega Man, two types of Sonic — while also bringing some much-needed levity to an otherwise very dramatic adventure.”

You can find the first Worlds Unite issue at your local comic book store, using the Sonic and Mega Man apps or at Comixology. Each issue will include several variant covers and a poster variant by Ben Bates that will combine to form a giant poster of epic proportions. The second part in the series continues in Sonic Boom #8!
