Rumor: New Virtua Fighter 5 part of PlayStation Plus June lineup

Virtua Fighter fans have long awaited for a morsel of news on their favorite fighter. I’m here to ease that pain (or perhaps increase your anxiety) on a story that just keeps getting more interesting. Back in September, SEGA teased a new title in the series at Tokyo Game Show. During a financial report in January, SEGA described the game as a game “restart“.

Despite being considered a restart, we reported in April of a “Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown” getting rated in South Korea. Based on the title, that does not sound like a completely new entry to me! This rumor has continued to gain traction, with a new report out today. Spanish website Area Jugones claims to have the scoop on the PlayStation Plus June lineup.

In the lineup, fans can expect Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, Star Wars: Squadrons, and Operation: Tango. (There really are a lot of colons in the lineup, eh?) Area Jugones have accurately reported on other rumors in the past, including the new colors for PS5 controllers.

This Thursday, SEGA is having their “Virtua Fighter x eSports” project live stream. Although reports have assumed this new title would be for Asian audiences only, the leak from Area Jugones suggests a western release as well. Hopefully SEGA reveals all this Thursday!

What do you hope is upgraded in the latest version of Virtua Fighter? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

You can stay tuned to their official channel when the stream goes live.
