Rumor: Shenmue HD remasters pushed back because of Shenmue III delay

Take it with a grain of salt

We’ve got another rumor for you ladies and gents, so take it with a grain of salt. Last September, ComicBook.com reported that Shenmue HD remasters were indeed in the works and scheduled to be released near the end of 2017.

Unfortunately, 2017 had come come and gone, without a single announcement by SEGA. According to the latest report by ComicBook.com, sources directly linked to SEGA say that Shenmue HD‘s announcement was pushed back because of Shenmue III‘s extended development.

Since then, I’ve heard an update from those same sources and have spoken to other journalists in Europe that claim the project is still alive and kicking at SEGA, but has been pushed back indefinitely. The reasoning behind this is said to be to related to the delayed development of Shenmue III.

…One source directly linked to SEGA shared that the publisher was considering making an announcement all the way back at E3 in 2017, but was put off when Shenmue III slipped into 2018.

Hopefully 2018 will be the year we finally see these Shenmue HD remasters, and, hopefully, Shenmue III.
