Sonic the Hedgehog has been inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame

Back in March, we reported that Sonic the Hedgehog was a finalist for the World Video Game Hall of Fame. Fans had the opportunity to pick from a list of legendary games such as Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto III, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter II, The Legend of Zelda, and of course, Sonic the Hedgehog.

The World Video Game Hall of Fame announced the six inductees into this year’s Hall of Fame, and they include Sonic the Hedgehog, Space Invaders, The Sims, The Oregon Trail, Grand Theft Auto III, and The Legend of Zelda. These selections were chosen “on the advice of journalists, scholars, and other individuals familiar with the history of video games and their role in society.

Congrats to Sonic the Hedgehog for making the cut! It is a well deserved honor and everyone at SEGA Nerds couldn’t be happier!
