THQ Nordic signs global publishing deal for AEW: Fight Forever

Earlier today, THQ Nordic and All Elite Wrestling confirmed that the two companies will work together on the release of AEW: Fight Forever.

AEW Executive Vice President and former World Champion Kenny Omega has overseen the development of the game since its inception. Additionally, Omega commonly acts as the main spokesperson for the video game. In light of the new publishing and distribution deal, Omega expresses his excitement in the official press release.

One of the first things I did after signing with AEW was to ask Tony Khan to let me help assemble the best gaming team on the planet, to make the best wrestling game ever. Well, we just landed the perfect finisher by partnering with global publishing and distribution powerhouse THQ Nordic for AEW: Fight Forever.

Along with Omega, developer Yuke’s also weighed in on the confirmation. The company’s president and CEO Yukinori Taniguchi emphasizes his excitement to work alongside THQ Nordic once again. Additionally, Taniguchi hails that the new game will revitalize wrestling games the same way AEW did with its programming.

I am both gratified and excited to have the opportunity to work with AEW – who is breathing new life into the pro wrestling industry – and the THQ brand, with whom we have created an entire era of pro wrestling games.

Reinhard Pollice, Executive Producer for THQ Nordic also doubled down on his excitement to revitalize the partnership with Yuke’s. In addition, Pollice demonstrates confidence that AEW: Fight Forever captures the magic of the wrestling games of the past.

Kenny’s incredible vision for AEW: Fight Forever is informed by his wrestling pedigree, both inside the ring and on the controller. Combine that vision with Yukes’ unparalleled wrestling game development history is resulting in an AEW experience that draws heavily on the arcade feel that first won wrestling gamer hearts more than two decades ago.

About AEW: Fight Forever

Bah God, Hangman Adam Page just broke Moxley in half!

Alongside the confirmation of THQ Nordic’s involvement in the game, the publisher also revealed new gameplay details about Fight Forever. One of the most unique features revealed is the inclusion of co-op wrestling in online tag team matches. Although there are no current details on how it will look or function, we do know that teammates will be able to combine sequences of moves to perform tag combos in multiplayer matches.

In addition, we also have a little more information on the game’s Career Mode. According to THQ Nordic, the career mode will focus on a player’s created wrestler and follow their AEW journey. The custom wrestler will get involved in multiple stories over an event schedule. In addition, winning matches and completing in-match objectives will earn you points that you can use in a skill tree to enhance your created wrestler’s statistics.

THQ Nordic also confirmed a list of match types players can compete in.

  • Singles
  • Tag-Team
  • 3-Way
  • 4-Way
  • Ladder
  • Casino Battle Royale
  • Falls Count Anywhere
  • Unsanctioned Lights-Out
  • Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match

Although these are the only match-types confirmed, one screenshot alludes to the possibility of more matches being announced down the line.

Why is the stadium exploding?

Although the odd fireball makes the image a tad confusing, we can clearly see that the screenshot takes place inside a football stadium. This could very well mean that the Stadium Stampede match could appear somewhere in the game. In addition, the announcement of trios-tag-team titles making their debut on AEW television would make an exclusion of the Trios-Tag match type a strange choice.

However, we should know more information sooner, rather than later. THQ Nordic will hold a gameplay showcase next Friday on August 12. Until then, you can check out the official teaser trailer blow, which also shows off the game’s cover art.
