TurboGrafx-16 mini delayed by COVID-19

The higher energy mini console put on hold

With just under two weeks to go until the official release date of March 19th, 2020, some unfortunate news has hit for those of us eager to get our hands on Konami and M2’s TurboGrafx-16 mini console.

Via the official website, Konami had this to say:

March 6, 2020
Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd.

Regarding the manufacturing and shipping delays of the TurboGrafx-16 mini products due to the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19)

We thank you for your continual support towards our products and services.

Regarding the TurboGrafx-16 mini console and its peripheral accessories, the manufacturing and shipping facilities in China have encountered an unavoidable suspension due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. As a result, the delivery of all TurboGrafx-16 mini products, which was originally scheduled for March 19th, 2020, will be delayed until further notice.

We deeply apologize to our customers for the significant inconvenience, and we humbly ask for your understanding and patience while we keep our close attention on the situation. We are investing all of our efforts to deliver the TurboGrafx-16 mini as soon as possible, and will provide further details on the deliver timing once confirmed.

This comes following Amazon marking the system as “Unavailable” in their product listing.

Those thinking they might be able to just snag one from overseas instead may be in for a disappointment as well, if this tweet from Cheesemeister translating a Japanese 4Gamer news article is any indication:

Note that while Cheesemeister says “TurboGrafx-16,” the original article also refers to the PC Engine Core Grafx mini and, as pictured, the PC Engine mini.

We’ll bring you more news about when you can expect to get your console once it becomes available.
